FORD
ESCAPE HYBRID
Ford introduced the Ford
Escape Hybrid in the Fall of 2004. Although
Ford didn't expect to turn a profit on the Ford Escape
Hybrid for some time, the company maintains that it is
committed to increasing the number of hybrid vehicles it
manufacturers each year.
The Ford Escape Hybrid was the first vehicle in the United
States that combined the positive elements of the SUV with the
fuel efficiency and environmental protection features afforded
by hybrid technology.
Today, the Ford Escape Hybrid benefits from a recent redesign.
Much of the sheet metal has changed, but the underlying hybrid
components are still the same. As a choice for a new or used
hybrid-powered small SUV, the Escape is worth a look.
The Ford Escape Hybrid automatically shifts between its
gasoline and electric energy sources based upon an onboard
computer analysis of which resource will provide optimal
efficiency at any given point in time.
With an EPA
estimated 34 city/30 hwy mpg the Ford Escape Hybrid provides
excellent fuel mileage.
Standard safety features include
side-impact airbags for the front seats and side curtain
airbags. Ford's AdvanceTrac electronic stability system with
Roll Stability Control is standard on conventional Escape SUVs,
but it's not offered on the Escape Hybrid due to complexities
involved with integrating the technology with the regenerative
braking system.
